Do you have a Ping Problem?

Have you ever wondered why the phone is not ringing with clients asking to work with you? Are you frustrated because your business is not growing as quickly as you’d like it to? Do you wonder why no one is asking you to partner and do business collaborations together? If so, you may have a ping problem.

If you’ve been following me a while, you know I’ve talked about ping before. Ping is what gives a singing voice shimmer and edge so it can carry and be heard over the orchestra. A voice without ping sounds flat or fuzzy. The sound quality is diffuse because it lacks clarity and focus. As a result, it has difficulty reaching the audience.

If you are having difficulty propelling your business forward, more than likely you too are  lacking ping. We often berate ourselves for our situation and think the answer is to keep doing more of what we have been doing. We think we might get more clients if we try a  new social media platform or attend more networking events. However, doing more is not the answer. Doing more is the equivalent of a singer just blowing air. The problem isn’t lack of effort, it is lack of clarity.

There are two major areas where lack of clarity gets entrepreneurs stuck. The first one is in their message. If you do not have a very clear idea about who you are, what you do and what makes you unique, your message will be diffuse. You have to understand what exactly you bring to the table that is of most value to your audience and you must articulate that message with authority. Confidence is sexy, but it only comes with clarity.

The second problem area for entrepreneurs is with their vision. We often throw around phrases like “taking your business to the next level,” but we don’t have a clear idea of what that means to us. We know we want to grow, get more clients or become industry leaders, but we don’t have a clear picture of what that will look like.  We don’t really know what we want it to be. Because we don’t have a clear picture of what we want, we can’t create effective and efficient strategies for getting there!

Instead of just charging ahead hoping something good will happen, you need to create a clear vision of your goal. Here are some questions to ask yourself to get more clarity.

1. What do I want? Simple, yes, but how many of us sit down and really think about the answer. What do you really want?

2. What would success look like for me?

3. What do I need to focus on most to bring my personal vision of success into fruition?

If you can get some clarity around those questions, you will save yourself a lot of time and energy. You will start to be more intentional with your work and you will see more progress towards goals that feel authentic. Combine a clear vision with a clear message and you will no longer have a ping problem. Instead, you will have beautiful focus in your tone.

As always, I love hearing from you. Don’t be afraid to speak your mind!

I’m curious, what would taking your business to the next level look like for you?

In what ways do you feel you need to refine your message to attract a bigger audience?
