The Treadmill Altar

If you are a woman entrepreneur, your plate is full. More than likely you are running your home, your business and possibly a gaggle of children to boot. In all the flurry of activity it is easy to put your own needs on the back burner. However, taking care of yourself should be priority number 1. Without your health and energy there will be no business, your house will be a mess and the kids will end up eating chicken nuggets most nights. Ok, so a few chicken nuggets is not the end of the world, but a regular diet of sub-par nutrition is not optimal. Neither is walking around in a haze because your mind and body are in a slump.

I have been active my whole life, but until recently I looked at exercise as a way only to keep my body healthy. I have now come to look at exercise as communion, a time to commune with myself. I don’t exercise religiously, but I am consistent. It is during those moments of sweat and exertion that I have my most inspired thoughts and ideas. My mind is focused and free at the same time. I am acutely aware of the rhythm of my feet, the beat of the music, my heartbeat and yet my mind is not struggling to concentrate. It is then and there I have the greatest access to my creative self. And therefore, I worship at the altar of the treadmill.

If you are afraid to exercise or don’t do it regularly, I urge you to take a new perspective. Don’t look at it as just a to-do, a chore, a major inconvenience or discomfort. Try looking at it as a gift to yourself and a gift to your business. I have come to feel very protective of my workout time. I look forward to it. To my surprise, my business has also been helped by my workout sessions. It is during those times when I come up with blog and article ideas, project ideas and solutions to challenges with which I have been struggling.

You don’t have to run a marathon to reap the benefits of waking up your mind with exercise. You just need to get moving. If you want to step up your business, try stepping up your feet. When you do, you’ll be on the fast-track to success.
