To Do or Do To Do, That is the Brand Question.

We are so lucky to live at this time and in this society. Now more than ever there is an abundance of opportunity. However, with all this opportunity it is sometimes difficult to know which choices to make. If you are trying to decide between a good option and a bad one the choice is obvious, but what do you do when there is no obvious distinction between a good and bad idea? What if you have more than one appealing opportunity? How do you know what to do?

This happened to me recently. I was given the chance to work with an incredible woman who would help me grow a new sector of my musical audience. Of course, as a singer I was chomping at the bit to get started and try something new, but as I started the process I started to have reservations. At first this feeling was really confusing to me. Why would I hesitate for such a great opportunity? As I contemplated the question I started to realize my resistance was not about what I would be moving towards, but rather what I would be moving away from, namely my business which is my CURRENT PRIORITY. If I moved forward with the singing project I would not be able to put as much energy and focus into my business, nor would I be able to put the kind of attention and focus into singing that would be needed to do a great job. I had to make a choice.

In this case I decided to postpone the singing project. I can go back to it later when I feel the timing is better. In order to make that decision though I had to be very clear about what my CURRENT PRIOIRITIES are which includes creating a strong, vibrant branding and business coaching business. Ten years ago it would have been a no-brainer to take on the singing project. Today, however, things are different.

Knowing your current priorities is one of the cornerstones of creating a strong, FLEXIBLE BRAND. What was relevant for you 5 years ago or perhaps even last year, may not be relevant now or more importantly for the vision you have for your business future. Sometimes the decision between good and better can be really difficult, but if you are CRYSTAL CLEAR on where you want to go, you can make those tough decisions with confidence.
